A scale maquette of the Chicago Picasso "Lady" public sculpture, given as gifts for those involved in fabricating and installing this famous sculpture. Fabricated by the American Bridge Company division of U.S. Steel Corporation using the exact materials of the original, including COR-TEN steel. Mounted on a marble base with a plaque that reads: "Picasso's The Lady, Daly Center Plaza, Chicago."
Ground was broken in Daley Plaza for the construction of the sculpture on May 25, 1967. The sculpture was initially met with controversy. There was speculation on the subject, which ranged from a bird, or aardvark to Picasso's pet Afghan Hound, or a baboon head. However it is assumed to be Sylvette David, a 19 year old model who is prominate in various works from this period, include "Sylvette" the public sculpture at NYU in New York City.
